Overview

The Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) Phase II programme, implemented by SFH Namibia in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Services and funded by the Mastercard Foundation, aims to protect health workers, strengthen routine immunisation systems, and institutionalise pandemic preparedness across Namibia.

Building on the achievements of Phase I, this phase intensifies support for COVID-19 vaccination while integrating it into life course immunisation and strengthening Namibia's public health infrastructure for long-term resilience.

Goal

To strengthen Namibia's capacity to manage current and future health emergencies by embedding COVID-19 response into routine immunisation and enhancing preparedness across all levels of the health system.

Key Objectives

  • Protect Healthcare Workers and Priority Populations through improved access to COVID-19 and routine vaccines.
  • Integrate COVID-19 Management into Routine Immunisation by developing national guidelines, building capacity, and scaling outreach.
  • Strengthen Health System Resilience to support sustainable pandemic preparedness and response frameworks.

Key Activities

  • Development of Integrated Life Course Immunisation Guidelines and national policy support
  • Regional outreach planning and deployment of mobile vaccination teams
  • Training workshops for EPI managers, healthcare workers, and community health workers
  • Quarterly review meetings, supportive supervision, and Data Quality Assessments (DQA)
  • Recruitment of technical experts for data management and immunisation system strengthening

Expected Outcomes

  • Increased vaccine coverage and reduced vaccine hesitancy
  • Strengthened capacity of frontline health workers
  • Institutionalised systems for genomic surveillance and outbreak detection
  • National rollout of integrated immunisation policies and improved public trust
  • Improved coordination among public health stakeholders and greater health system resilience
